MUTARE-A tragic incident occurred in Manyonho Village under Chief Mutasa in Honde Valley after a 14-year-old boy allegedly consumed pesticide poison following a misunderstanding with his mother.
Manicaland province acting police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka told The Midweek Watch that, the incident happened on May 6, 2026, at around 12 noon. The juvenile, Tylone Nyamhungu, had reportedly been reprimanded by his mother, Agatha Sachikonye (58), for assaulting other children.
It is alleged that after the reprimand, Tylone took a bottle of pesticide poison from the family storeroom and consumed it. A relative later noticed the situation and alerted the family. The boy reportedly disappeared briefly before returning home, where he started vomiting in his room. He was rushed to Honde Clinic but was pronounced dead upon arrival.
The matter was reported at ZRP Ruda. Police recovered the bottle of suspected poison from the deceased’s room, while no visible injuries were found on the body. The body was taken to Hauna District Hospital mortuary for post-mortem examinations. Investigations are ongoing.
Police and community leaders have encouraged children and young people to seek help and guidance from parents, teachers, guardians, or trusted elders whenever they face challenges or disagreements. Families have also been urged to promote open communication and peaceful ways of resolving conflicts.
