Masvingo police have arrested two men suspected of being involved in a cellphone theft and resale operation targeting residents in areas such as Rujeko, Mucheke, and Victoria Range.
According to ZRP Masvingo Province deputy spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Masauso Patinyu, the suspects have been identified as Wisdom Zinyemba (22) of Zano Village under Chief Chikwanda, and Kudakwashe Mubaiwa (36) of Rujeko B.
It is alleged that Zinyemba was responsible for stealing the mobile phones, while Mubaiwa would assist by flashing and reselling the stolen devices.
On April 22 at around 08:30 AM, police officers carried out an undercover operation opposite the Zimre building.
During the operation, they reportedly observed Zinyemba stealing two cellphones.
When the suspects noticed the presence of the police, they fled in different directions, prompting a prolonged chase.
Both suspects were eventually apprehended.
A search conducted by the police led to the recovery of seven cellphones, all protected with passwords.
The suspects failed to unlock the devices or give a satisfactory explanation regarding their origin.
