BUHERA, Manicaland – A 33-year-old man is fighting for his life following a violent confrontation at Jaggers Business Centre on the night of April 18 in Buhera.

The incident, which occurred around 10:00 PM, involved two neighbors whose drinking session ended in a near-fatal stabbing. The accused, identified as Alucious Mazadza (38) of Majengwa Village, Chief Makumbe, was reportedly drinking alcohol with the complainant, Tendeukai Hokonya (33) of Zave Village.

During the session, an argument broke out between the two. The situation escalated rapidly when Mazadza allegedly, smashed an empty beer bottle against the ground, struck Hokonya on the left side of his neck with a jagged shard of the broken bottle, inflicting a deep, severe laceration.

Hokonya managed to report the assault to the Buhera Police Station before being rushed to Murambinda Hospital. Due to the critical nature of the neck wound and his worsening condition, he was subsequently referred to Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital for emergency specialized treatment. He remains in serious condition.

Manicaland Provincial Police Acting Spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka, confirmed the attempted murder case to The Midweek Watch. While the motive behind the argument remains unknown, he noted that the accused and the victim are neighbors and not related.

As of now, the accused is yet to be arrested as investigations continue.

”We are handling this as a case of attempted murder,” Assistant Inspector Chinyoka stated. “We continue to urge the public to desist from using violence to settle disputes, especially when consuming alcohol.”
