KWEKWE — The founder of Living Waters Church in Mbizo, Kwekwe, has been remanded in custody after allegedly assaulting his eight-months pregnant wife, who later gave birth prematurely and lost the baby.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) confirmed the arrest of Simabyu Shiri (37) following an alleged domestic violence incident at the couple’s home in Mbizo on February 22.

Police said Shiri allegedly assaulted his wife, Trisha Samantha Maphosa (28), during a domestic dispute and threatened to kill her and the unborn child.

Maphosa was admitted to a local hospital on February 26 where she gave birth prematurely.

The baby died the following day, police said.

Shiri appeared in court and was remanded in custody to March 11 pending further investigations.
