Chiredzi District AGRITEX is aiming high as preparations heat up for the Masvingo Provincial Agricultural Show scheduled to run from 26th to 28th September at the Masvingo Showgrounds.
Speaking ahead of the event to The Midweek Watch, Chiredzi AGRITEX officer Tongai Bodi expressed optimism that the district will secure top honours, building on previous successes.
“As AGRITEX Chiredzi District we are geared for the show and ready to compete against other districts, we have done our homework and we are ready to roll. We’ve selected 15 of our best farmers who recently impressed at the Lowveld Agricultural Show. Each will be exhibiting in not more than five classes, as per the new requirements,” said Bodi.
The district has selected its strongest areas of production for the show, with exhibits lined up in sorghum, pearl millet, sesame, cotton and pulses.
Bodi also commended the support from the Chiredzi Rural District Council which is providing transport for the farmers to attend the show.
“We want to thank the supportive hand of Chiredzi RDC for ensuring our farmers can participate. This is not just about prizes but also about exposure,” he said.
Beyond the competition, the show presents an opportunity for farmers to engage with input suppliers, output buyers and other stakeholders vital to the success of farming in the Lowveld.
“We anticipate to garner one of the top three prizes,” Bodi added.
“Our farmers will also benefit from networking and learning from others in the province.”
As the Masvingo Agricultural Show approaches, Chiredzi AGRITEX’s confidence and preparation reflect the district’s commitment to excellence in agriculture.
This year’s annual show is running under the theme: Promoting Development for Economic Growth.
