MIDWEEK REPORTER
HARARE-One of the biggest indigenous construction companies in the country, Fossil Contracting Group has rolled out a nationwide scholarship program with 80 learners benefiting so far.

Fossil which is involved in major national projects like the widening of the Harare-Beitbridge Highway is also into housing construction.
Recently nine students under the company’s scholarship program graduated at the University of Zimbabwe.
The following graduated with degrees in Construction and Quantity Surveying Tanaka Tavarera, Ruvimbo Kutekwa, and Ryan Liwana.
Tafadzwa Samuriwo, Kudakwashe Mutendi, Takudzwa Mombeyarara, Mercy Madhi, Hopewell Chakanyuka and Osie Zimuto all graduated in Civil Engineering.
This initiative by Fossil Contracting has provided essential support to the learners, enabling them to successfully navigate their educational journeys in the field of construction and engineering.
Among the university students who graduated, five are male, while four are female.
Currently, there are 41 university students on scholarship, while a combined 30 are primary and high school students.
The grandaunts paid tribute to Fossil Contracting for giving them the opportunity to pursue their dreams despite coming from less privileged backgrounds.
The students gained practical experience by being part of the teams that constructed the Trabablas interchange at the former Mbudzi round about and Harare-Beitbridge Highway.
They also thanked Fossil Contracting Group chief executive officer, Obey Chimuka for providing everything including learning material until graduation day.
This is the first group to graduate under the Fossil Contracting scholarship program and the company has pledged to increase students under the initiative.
An engineer in the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure Development who spoke on condition of anonymity applauded Fossil’s initiative.
“While the company is giving back to the community, this is a game changer as the graduates will automatically fit into the development agenda of the country because they did their attachment with the company that is involved in real work on the ground.
“Fossil is being practical and proactive and we hope other organisations in their respective fields will join the initiative to lessen the burden of less privileged families,” she told The Midweek Watch.
Fossil Contracting is involved in various other social responsibility activities like paying fees for orphans, giving assistance to the elderly and health institutions wherever possible.
