MBERENGWA-A four-month-old infant died tragically in Mberengwa after falling from her mother’s back during a domestic altercation.
The victim, Mitchelle Zhou, was caught in a fight between her parents, Mthandazo Zhou and Tawananyasha Zhou at Domboshava village on October 23.
The Midlands province police spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, told The Midweek Watch that the parents are in custody facing murder charges.
“The couple’s argument escalated into a scuffle. The baby slipped and died instantly. Authorities foiled a secret burial attempt in Khumalo Village,” he said.
Insp Mahoko said the public must resolve disputes peacefully, saying violence has no place in relationships.
The tragedy underscores Zimbabwe’s ongoing struggle with domestic abuse.
According to Amnesty International, gender-based violence remains prevalent, with women and children disproportionately affected.
