MILLICENT HUNGWE
The ZRP has apprehended four suspects in connection with a series of robbery cases that took place between March 31 and April 21, 2025, in Mhangura, Shamva, and Murehwa.
The suspects, Charles Dhokotera (42), Mayor Sibanda (34), Bothwell Kamwendo (40), and Trivolta Donald Matunhu (20), are accused of committing multiple robberies, including an incident on April 21, 2025, at Nyamuzara Business Centre in Murewa, The Midweek Watch has learned.
ZRP National Spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident.
On that day, the suspects, dressed in camouflage and police uniforms, and armed with three rifles, a pistol, and baton sticks, attacked a general dealer and cocktail bar owner, his family, and patrons.
They stole seven cellphones and cash valued at $1,300.
However, their getaway car, a white Toyota Aqua (registration number AGC 2677), was blocked by the complainants and members of the public, leading to a high-speed chase.
The police responded swiftly and arrested Dhokotera after the suspects’ car developed a puncture.
Further investigations led to the arrest of the other suspects in Harare.
The suspects led the police to a bushy area near Shavanhowe River, where stolen property was recovered, including army uniforms, firearms, and other equipment.
The suspects are linked to two other robbery cases one at a mine in Mhangura on March 31, where gold trapping mates were stolen, and another at a mine in Tafuna, Shamva, on April 12, where 50 cellphones, 20 grams of gold, and $4,400 in cash were stolen.
The ZRP is appealing for information to assist in the arrest of outstanding suspects, identified as Raphael Gwaze, Keda, and Dube. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the nearest police station.
