Shurugwi- John Svondo of Magakooshla from Shurugwi was robbed of US$1 200 and a cellphone on 9 April 2023 at around 7pm while on his way home.
Svondo was on his way home from Gweru in the company of a female friend, Ashley Bomani when they were attacked by three men who are still at large.
Midlands Provincial Police Spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the development.
“We are appealing to members of the public who might have information that may lead to the arrest of the three suspects to pass the information to their nearest police station.” Said Ins Mahoko.
He said Svondo and his female colleague met three men but they only managed to identify one of them as Manex who is quite popular in their neighborhood.
The three suspects demanded money to buy beer but Svondo said he had no money and the three suspects went on to assault John Svondo by striking him several times on the head with empty beer bottles until he fell down.
One of the suspects searched Svondo’s trousers pocket and took US$1 200 in cash, a Mobicel cellphone and they fled away.
The matter was reported at ZRP Shurugwi and investigations are underway.
