3 candidates file for Gutu East by-election

Three candidates have successfully filed their nomination papers for the Gutu East by-election scheduled for June 14.

The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission nomination court which was led by Midlands Provincial Officer Taurai Gavi sat at Masvingo Magistrates Court on May 15 from 10am to 4pm with each candidate paying non refundable fee of US$1,000.

During a press briefing held at 12:00 PM, it was announced that Zivanai Nzvenga of the National Constitutional Assembly (NCA) led by Professor Lovemore Madhuku, Zvarevashe Masvingise of ZANU PF, and independent candidate Gift Gonese had successfully filed their nomination papers.

Nzvenga expressed confidence in his readiness for the elections and commended the fairness of the nomination process.

Independent candidate Gift Gonese stated, “The cry of the Gutu East residents made me want to contest in this by-election, there is no turning back I am fully committed to this race.”

The Gutu East seat fell vacant following the expulsion of Benjamin Ganyiwa from the ruling party prompting ZEC to declare the seat vacant.
