MASVINGO CITY-Shakashe Primary School posted 88.72% pass rate in the 2025 Grade 7 Zimbabwe School Examinations Council with 244 out of 275 learners passing.

Of the 275 who sat for the 2025 exams 142 of them were female while 133 were boys.

In 2024 the pass rate was 94%.

Of those who passed, 65 learners achieved 10 units and below.

School head, Leonard Julius expressed both satisfaction and concern stating that while the results are commendable, there is still room for improvement.

“We need to work harder as a team to raise the bar and maintain our strong academic record,” said Julius.

A parent who spoke to The Midweek Watch on condition of anonymity said, although there was a slump on the results, there is need to increase the number of public schools in the high density areas or expand infrastructure at the existing schools as they are now overwhelmed.

“The schools’ infrastructure is being chocked by high enrollment levels.

“Right now the school has over 2 300 learners, making it one of the biggest primary schools in Masvingo Province, how do you manage such a large number of learners with such limited infrastructure at the school? The head is actually doing very well under the prevailing situation,” said the parent.
