21 Karoi pupils in Mutare accident

MUTARE CITY-Twenty one Karoi Junior School pupils cheated death when their school ploughed into a mountain at a curve 16km along Vumba-Mutare Road yesterday evening.

The Zhong Tong bus which was driven by Christopher Garawafa (52) had 62 pupils aged 12 years and below and seven teachers from the elite primary school in Mashonaland West Province.

Manicaland Police, public relations, community and liaison officer, Inspector Nobert Muzondo confirmed the mishap to The Midweek Watch and said all the injured pupils are receiving treatment at Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital.

Muzondo said the accident happened at around 530pm when the driver of the bus failed to negotiate a sharp curve and plunged into a mountain resulting in its front part being extensively damaged.

The Vehicle Inspection Department experts were yet to carry out investigation to ascertain the cause of the accident as the bus was still at the scene of the accident at the time of posting the story.
