MASVINGO CITY-Two Rujeko women are battling for their lives in hospital after being attacked with a knife by a robber in Rujeko B Suburb.
The sad incident happened in the on Monday, 19 January, at around 2:30am in Rujeko B suburb.
The incident involved two complainants, Clearance Dumba (34) and Medline Dumba (24), who both reside at the same house in Rujeko B.
According to ZRP Masvingo Province deputy spokesperson Assistant Inspector Masauso Patinyu, the accused person is an unknown male adult who is still at large.
Reports indicate that at around 1:00am, Clearance retired to bed, while Medline and another person went to sleep in a spare bedroom.
At around 2:30am, Medline woke up and discovered an unknown male adult inside her room.
The suspect was armed with an okapi knife, wearing a grey jacket, and had already taken her cellphone.
Medline raised an alarm by shouting for help, prompting the intruder to attack her.
She was stabbed twice, once on the right side of the neck and once under the right breast.
During the struggle, the suspect dropped the stolen cellphone onto the floor.
The noise awakened Clearance, who rushed into the passage to investigate.
She encountered the suspect and was viciously attacked, sustaining three stab wounds, one on the back, one on the right breast, and another on the right wrist.
After the attack, the suspect fled from the house and disappeared into the darkness.
The victims later received assistance from their relatives, and the police were promptly informed.
The two complainants were rushed to Masvingo 24-Hour Clinic, where they are receiving medical treatment.
Their condition has been described as very serious.
Police are appealing to members of the public who may have information that could lead to the arrest of the suspect to report to the nearest police station.
