Two police officers and other three suspects have appeared at the Norton Magistrates Court facing murder charges.
Officers Tafadzwa Gerald Madzima (22), Tavonga Munoda (21) and Gerald Mupandawana Makore (38), Nicola Kadonzvo (28) as well as Judith Mangando (45), allegedly assaulted a maid to death after accusing her of stealing US$100.
The incident occurred at Plot 26 Parl, Selous on July 17, 2024.
It is the state case that Makore, Kadonzvo and Mangando allegedly assaulted Ruvimbo Kamugwala with switches, electric cables, and open hands before they took her to the police base.
At the police base officers Madzima and Munoda assaulted Kamugwala with a button stick while handcuffed.
The court heard that Kamugwala died the following morning after further assault.
All five accused were remanded in custody until August 1, 2024, and were advised to apply for bail at High Court.
