MASVINGO-Two people were killed and one injured in a road accident on the Masvingo-Mutare road on October 4, according to Masvingo Province ZRP spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa.
The incident occurred at around 4:45 pm at the 162 km peg when a white Toyota Probox, driven by Effort Tauya from Chief Mazungunye in Bikita, veered off the road and overturned twice.
The vehicle was traveling towards Mutare with 10 passengers on board when Tauya lost control after hitting a pothole.
The car landed on its right side, resulting in fatal injuries to two passengers, Baron Mutongoza (29) from Chief Ndanga in Zaka, and Sarudzai Muchakagara (38) from Chief Ziki.
Both died on the spot due to severe head injuries.
A third passenger sustained hand injuries and was treated and discharged on the same day.
The deceased were taken to Silveira Mission Hospital for postmortem, while the damaged vehicle was sent to VED for inspection.
Inspector Dhewa emphasized the importance of attentive driving, adding that the “Drivers must be attentive when driving.”
