CHIREDZI-A fatal road traffic accident which occurred on the 15th of February at around 0820 hours at the 100km peg along the Ngundu–Tanganda Road claimed one person and injured five others.
The accident involved a silver Toyota Noah driven by Norman Chinyoka of Tshovani, Chiredzi.
It is said that the vehicle was travelling due east towards Tanganda with five passengers on board. Upon reaching a point near COTTCO Chiredzi, the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle which overturned several times before landing on its wheels.
One passenger, Raphael Matanga (75) of Gwachara, Chiredzi sustained severe head and chest injuries and died on the spot. The other five passengers including the driver were injured and taken to Chiredzi Hospital where they were all admitted.
Two are reported to be in a serious condition while three are in stable condition. The deceased’s body was taken to the same hospital mortuary.
ZRP Masvingo Deputy Spokesperson Assistant Inspector Masauso Patinyu urged motorists to avoid speeding and to exercise due care and attention when driving.
